Happy Birthday!

Posted by Michael Adshead on Wednesday, August 8, 2012,
Well on the 9th August all the pups will be one year old. Where has this year gone? We have heard from most of the owners in the last year, mostly good news and some sad where personal issues have meant some tough decisions. Hopefully all has been sorted.
Both Oreo and Daisy have had a good year since teh pups were born and we kept one son, Peanut. He was the one with the damaged tail end where Daisy nibbled through the umbilical and caught his tail. He's a great dog, full of beans.
Oreo was ne...

53 days old - time to say goodbye.

Posted by Michael Adshead on Friday, September 30, 2011,
This is Chloe posting, the daughter :) it's been a sad day for us today, we have had quite a few tears. 3 of the 12 pups have gone to their loving new homes today which were Alfie, Domino and Dave. The pen is abit quieter without them and we can really notice the difference! Especially the poop! 6 pups are going tomorrow which i'm sure will bring more tears - best bring out the kleenex! The other remaining 2 will be going to their new homes on tuesday. The house will definately feel empty but...

All pups have had their first vaccination and checked over by the vet, all are fit and well with all the boys 'complete'! The vet's practice was all over the pups, they loved them! Had enough fun getting them there and into the practice!

Also I'd like to mention about the puppy food for those that are reading this. We were feeding them on Butcher's puppy food mixed with Beaphars lactol milk. For a while we were having real issues with loose poo's, so we tried them on something different to see...

Well the time is flying now, the pups are now over 6 weeks old and not long for them to leave for their new homes. Their meat intake has increased a little and they seem to be enjoying it. Just as well as the lactol is getting in short supplies across our area! This weekend coming is our last one with them all together, so it'll be a good one. The following Friday and Saturday will see the majority leave for pastures new, some fairly local and a few scattered across the southern region, from ...

Well yesterday, the 13th September saw the pups at 5 weeks old and a nice 80 mile round trip to have their BAER hearing tests carried out. Not a nice trip as we had to get their early in order to feed them all before our appointment, this was to make them a little docile for the tests. It went better than expected and out of the 12 pups we only had two with failed hearing in one ear, the rest were fine. After discussing this with Kate, the vet at Seadown, she said the two which had uni-latera...

Well they are getting 'fatter'! Weight is going on nicely and they are getting a lovely shape to them. Daisy has been weaned off now and so all on substitute milk and puppy food which they are lapping up well. We are seeing some right personalities coming through, feisty ones as well! Some play fighting going on and chewing of ears and whatever else they can grab a nold of! They are sleeping through the night now, no dramas which is pleasing. As it stands we have two boys left pending viewing...

Well overdue! It's been a busy time looking after the pups, taking it in turns to sleep on the sofa! Daisy has been on double rations so inevitable toilet breaks in the early hours etc! Well the pups are growing well and getting the own personalities. They are also developing their teeth! Daisy is weaning so we are doing our bit in giving them puppy milk and some puppy food. The first time on puppy food was somewhat interesting! Milk mixed with puppy food and all twelve having a free for all!...

Spots are really starting to show on some. Some of the pups are trying to walk a little as well. A couple of them have started to open their eyes as well, they look so cute! Weight gain is good and we are seeing who the chubby ones might be and the runt as well. The interest is very good with a few on a reserve list now, so alot will depend on who sticks to their guns and says a girl only, or will they fold? I'll be contacting the first few on the list soon so we can book a viewing time so al...

Not alot to say apart from the weight gain is going very well. Spots are showing well on some more than others. Could be a few heartbreakers in there! The waiting list has gone mad and we are now in the reserve stage, so we do know the girls will find a home pretty quickly as we have more suitors than girls available, shame as we cannot please you all! However the hard bit is telling people further down the list if they have a chance of a boy. Not easy when some prefer a girl due to other...

All doing very well. Pups are gaining weight nicely now with only the runt to watch but he's doing well. If anything the wife is falling for the runt, seeing that our Oreo was the runt in his litter she has a liking for them! Daisy is back to her old self, always hungry and enjoying her marmite on toast and weetabix with goats milk for brekkie! She's having her daily calcium supplement every feedtime. Getting a few more calls and emails regarding interested parties. It is now getting close to...

All the pups are doing well and all gaining weight. We keep a daily log of all weights for all pups so we can see how they develop and if any require a top up. Good news is those that had minimal or no weight gain have shown a much improved increase today. It also shows who are thre greedy ones! We know who you are! We also had to remark them all as the original marks were disappearing. Seeing some changes already in their appearance, spots showing up on some more than others.
I modified the d...

Puppies and Daisy settling down nicely, feeding patterns getting known, what they want and when they want it. Daisy is feeding them well and stimulating them when it comes to toileting etc. Daisy seems to be back to her old self a little, tail wagged today! However her only focus is the pups and it's a game to peel her away for a toilet break! We took Oreo's collar off today so he can sneak up to the whelping pen to peak over the top, before Daisy would hear his disc and start growling at him...

Day 63

Posted by Michael Adshead on Wednesday, August 10, 2011,
Okay alot has happened since that last blog update, from 1810 yesterday (9th August) Daisy started delivering her puppies. This carried on until 0330 this morning. On total she delivered 13 puppies, however the last one was stillborn as the placenta had become detached, this we found very hard to take, very upsetting. However we are still reeling from the fact that our little Daisy has produced 9 healthy boys and and 3 healthy girls. We took them all to the vet this morning to get them checke...

Day 62

Posted by Michael Adshead on Tuesday, August 9, 2011,
Up all night with Daisy, got little sleep. She's been scratching at bedding, vomitting etc. We've been helping her settle in her whelping box as she keeps going to her bed under the stairs, not ideal as not alot of room for us to get in and help! At 11:20 this morning her waters have broke so she is into her 2nd stage, strange as I wouldn't say she was making a racket as one would expect if having contractions. Oreo has been superb so far, not been left out and has been asleep with Daisy duri...

Day 61

Posted by Michael Adshead on Monday, August 8, 2011,
Just when you think she must be ready, the pups are like teenagers, not wanting to get out of bed! We have been taking regular temperature checks and seen a little drop but not enought to say it's in the first stage until this afternoon. My daughter has noticed a change in her mood which indicates she may well be starting, so we are keeping an eye on her behaviour. I will say this, Daisy has been excellent throughout, not once has she complained with an anal probe three times a day! Oreo ...

Day 59

Posted by Michael Adshead on Saturday, August 6, 2011,
Daisy is getting close. The pups are moving around, perhaps getting ready for their grand entrance! We are really feeling for her now as she is struggling to get around. We can't help but think of the donkeys on Weston-Super-Mare beach as she looks like one what with the huge lumps either side of her! The waiting list is growing and my youngest girl, who would like to keep one of the pups, is getting worried as there might not be any left! As much as I love them I think two is enough.

Getting bigger!

Posted by Michael Adshead on Monday, August 1, 2011,
Well our Daisy is not far off now, alot of movement in there and plenty of rippling and licking going on. Daisy is quite an apt name for her as she looks like a cow from behind, what with her udders!

Scan results

Posted by Michael Adshead on Friday, July 22, 2011,
Well, a little disappointed in that the scan was exciting but unfortunately the vet could not count how many Daisy was expecting as in his words, " she's a bit packed in there!" So I'm afraid it'll be like christmas, so you'll all have to wait to see what you get! He also said she's a nice size!

1st blog!

Posted by Michael Adshead on Tuesday, July 19, 2011,
Daisy is blooming very well and her moods are changing daily. Today she can't get enough breakfast and her walks are slowing down. So the walks are getting shorter so just enough to stretch her legs and to allow her to do her 'business'.
